The MassMutual Legal Ops team is seeking a Business Analytics Consultant with a focus on Tableau Reporting and Development. The primary focus of this position is to mold data in an accessible way for the Law Department, enabling individuals to make actionable and strategic data-driven decisions.
Job Description
This Business Analytics Consultant will be a critical member of the budding reporting and analytics team which continues to have growing responsibilities to support the Law Department’s digital enablement. The Law Department has a blend of numeric and text-based data– and we are looking for a creative individual to further help us harness our data’s full potential. In addition, this individual may support broader initiatives, strategic projects, request for innovative data solutions and structuring raw data to help transform the Law Department’s digital landscape.

The MassMutual Legal Ops team is a dedicated group of seven professionals who essentially “run the business” of the Law Department. We take our jobs seriously, but don’t take ourselves too seriously. - Leverage BI tools such as Tableau, SQL, MicroStrategy, Alteryx to perform data integration, data visualization, analytics, and report development using best practices with intuitive user experience;
- Gather, interpret, and analyze business requirements and use cases, develop concepts/mock-ups via iterative practices, and design reporting solutions (dashboards, scorecards, etc) that meet use cases/requirements, as well as achieve ease of usability and self-service capabilities;
- Create documentation and technical specifications for reporting solutions, develop procedures/standard work, support readiness/training activities to end users;
- Perform routine maintenance support, and troubleshoot reported issues as well as determine root causes, and implement counter measures;
- Understand and optimize dataflows and develop intuitive data organization standards;
- Be self-supportive in collaborating with peers to effectively deliver a robust solution for the business;
- Act as a champion for analytics capabilities by communicating their benefits and how they can be implemented and leveraged across the organization.
Requirements:
The Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years designing, managing, and driving the development of complex reports and dashboards leveraging Tableau and other BI tools;
- Have understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL), experience writing complex SQL queries, 4+ years of experience with relational database concepts, SQL queries, Views, and Stored Procedures and experience translating business needs into data visualization the enable decision-making and analysis;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to effectively and confidently interact with business and technical personnel, at all levels in the organization.
The Ideal Qualifications
- Strong understanding of data, data projects, reporting/analytics organizations, and applicable support methodologies;
- Knowledge of data governance and data management technologies and methodologies utilizing data cataloging tools (such as Alation);
- Ability to apply technical and business knowledge across multiple Law department business functions;
- Ability to work in close collaboration with project/program managers, architects, developers, and testers to optimize the quality of the developed product;
- Influence design & architecture inclusive of technical (non-functional) requirements;
- Ability to work through complex issues, identify themes, and develop solutions, in time-critical situations;
- Ability to develop a strong understanding of business processes and functional requirements and skill to be able to translate business requirements into succinct functional / technical specifications;
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and platforms.
