Product Owner (New Business Tech)

The New Business Technology team is looking for a Product Owner (PO) to support MassMutual’s Product Manufacturing delivery lifecycle. This role will focus on leading the delivery of Life and Disability Income (DI) product launches across MassMutual’s New Business platform. The PO will oversee product delivery execution, manage development team priorities, and serve as a key bridge between the business product roadmap and technical development squads. With MassMutual launching 6–10 new products annually, this role will directly contribute to scaling delivery efficiency, improving speed to market, and creating a sustainable product manufacturing process across our Romania-based teams.

The New Business Technology team supports MassMutual’s effective delivery of new product launches and ongoing platform enhancements. The team is located globally across Romania, India, and the U.S. The team collaborates closely with business product teams, actuarial teams, and enterprise architecture groups to execute new product builds while enhancing the New Business Process.

The Product Owner will work from our Cluj or Bucharest office while collaborating with the Global MassMutual teams and provide support. The person who will join this role will report to a local IT Delivery Manager.

Responsibilities:

Product Ownership & Delivery Leadership

• Act as the bridge between business product strategy and technical execution for Life & DI New Business Technology.
• Own and maintain the product backlog; manage feature prioritization aligned with business value and delivery readiness.
• Oversee integrated project plans and product roadmaps for New Business Technology, ensuring alignment to MassMutual’s enterprise product roadmap.
• Lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, and cross-functional coordination to ensure timely delivery of new product capabilities.
• Serve as the liaison between business stakeholders, development teams, and enterprise architecture.

Process Optimization & Manufacturing Efficiency

• Assess and implement continuous improvements to reduce time-to-market, improve product development speed, and lower delivery costs.
• Partner with engineering and operations to build a sustainable and scalable product manufacturing process that supports ongoing product launches.
• Implement product delivery best practices across development squads, including intake management, prioritization, estimation, and resource planning.

Technical Collaboration & Agile Leadership

• Coordinate development environment readiness and cross-system integration needs with upstream and downstream partners.
• Work directly with software engineers, tech leads, analysts, and QA teams to clarify user stories, dependencies, and technical deliverables.
• Support SDLC best practices, technical standards, and agile methodologies across the delivery organization.
• Maintain awareness of inter-team dependencies, escalate risks, and drive issue resolution.

Requirements

Technical & Delivery Skills

• Strong understanding of product manufacturing processes, new product development, and technology delivery models.
• Familiarity with product rules configuration, illustration systems, policy administration platforms, and insurance product launch cycles.
• Experience collaborating with engineering teams in agile scrum  or scaled agile environments.
• Knowledge of end-to-end software delivery lifecycle (SDLC), technical integrations, and cross-platform dependencies.
